Lyrics
The sun lit the sky.
Sun lit the sly a tequila sunrise.
With no directions.
No place to be.
Under the sunrise is the only place I’d rather be.
I have no directions.
Don’t have an answer but I don’t mind.
I know where I’m going and where I came from.
With him I’ll be fine.
So what am I gonna do?
Where am I gonna do?
Will I ever find you and be beside you?
I wanna know will the sun still shine on the other side?
I have no directions.
Don’t have an answer but I don’t mind.
I know where I’m going and where I came from.
With him I’ll be fine.
The sun lit the sky.
Sun lit the sky before I rested my eyes.
It’s been a minute since I’ve been home.
Under the sunrise I’m on my own.
Writing
The inspiration to write this song came from a place of revitalization. After a long pause from writing music I overcame my anger from a failed record deal. Tequila Sunrise was the first song I wrote during my new awakening. I felt a raging fire building with in telling me to not give up on my dreams. Even if I don't know the answers and I don't know where I'm going. I've learned that if we know the story before living it then there's no song to write. Life is about the spontaneity of the present.
This song may be my favorite song on the album because it's so honest, raw and down to Earth. The piano chords and lyrics came simultaneously. I was living in California, feeling lost on the west coast. I kept hearing the word sunrise. Some time later I knew I needed to leave behind the sunset in the west and follow the sunrise in the east.
Recording
I recorded half of Tequila Sunrise in San Diego and the rest was finished in Buffalo, New York after I made my move. This song is part of the equinox in my Album and is the kick start to a grunge, alternative, acoustic sound I discovered upon my transition across country.
Recording piano tracks for Tequila Sunrise at Select Sound in San Diego, CA.
Justin Werner recorded guitar for the song.
I recorded the vocals for Tequila Sunrise at GCR Audio in Buffalo, NY.
Evan Kaderbeck, A Buffalo native, recorded more guitar layers for the song.
Moving
Moving during the middle of the recording process of my album was difficult because I was far from home and I had to learn to survive and make a living with my musical skills. It put me in check and the strains took me to a higher level as an artist and as a person. The album changed in a mature positive way. I cut about half of the songs I had originally picked for the album and replaced much of the irate songs I once use to write. The Ride was finding resolution and peace.
